I saw one of these in Iran when I was little and thought it was an amazing-looking car.

They don't look bad. PSA should have another shot at USDM.

The new 1.6 THP engines seem to be quite good though. But I agree nonetheless. I once drove a petrol 308 with around 100hp. One of the worst engine I ever drove (along with PSA 75hp petrol engine), especially when you're used to the torque of a diesel engine.

It's a pretty terrible car though.

Regrettably, that car dates from Peugeot's 2000s malaise period, and as such kinda sucks utter shit. (I say this as a huge fan of the marque, who drives one of their cars—the primary reason why I hate Peugeot's 2000s offerings so much is that they're such a disappointment compared to what they were putting out in the 80s and 90s.)

All my favourite Peugeots are petrols; the two things they used to be best at were diesel family cars, and fantastic GTis. I prefer the GTis.
It has to be said, though, that I'd take a petrol 106 or 306 over a diesel model, as the primary reason I'd be buying one is for that nineties Peugeot handling - one of the reasons why I like Peugeot so much is that, back when they actually made good cars at least, they didn't save all the fun for their performance models - and the diesel cars weren't quite as good in that regard, as they had more weight up front.

I quite like my 106's 1.1 petrol; it seems quite punchy, even by comparison to a friend of mine's 1.4 Polo. I suppose the weight disparity might have something to do with it.

we in Oz never got the 106 :(
205 GTi's are thin on the ground
309's were only by private import :(
yes they were the days when Peugeot made better petrols , but now the make better diesels
